Colin Hay has played this song SEVERAL different ways. This particular version is based on the version performed on Park City Television which can be found on YouTube ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SuXLElEDEKI ).
Unlike the Men At Work and Scrubs versions which start in E, this one starts in D. Rather than being exact, I tried to put together a version that sounds very similar but is fairly easy to play.
Don't let the chords scare you away on this one. Follow the chord chart below for best results. If you want to make the verses even easier you can use your first finger and pinky to play the fingerings on the D and E strings and mute the rest. Another tip...For the transition from F# to F#7 in the chorus all you have to do is lift your pinky.
DD/C# I can't get to sleep CC/B I think about the implications DD/C# Of diving in too deep CC/B And possibly the complications DD/C# Especially at night CC/B I worry over situations DD/C# I know will be alright CC/B Perhaps its just my imagination
[Chorus]
BmAsusA Day after day it reappears BmAsusA Night after night my heartbeat shows the fear F#F#7G Ghosts appear and fade away AsusA
[Verse]
DD/C# Alone between the sheets CC/B Only brings exasperation DD/C# It's time to walk the streets CC/B Smell the desperation DD/C# At least there's pretty lights CC/B And though there's little variation DD/C# It nullifies the night CC/B from overkill
[Chorus]
BmAsusA Day after day it reappears BmAsusA Night after night my heartbeat shows the fear F#F#7G Ghosts appear and fade away AsusA
