Aretha Louise Franklin (Memphis, 25 de março de 1942-Detroit, 16 de agosto de 2018, Detroit) era uma cantora norte-americana de gospel, R&B e soul que virou ícone da música negra. É considerada a maior cantora de todos os tempos pela revista Rolling Stone e pela mesma, foi eleita a 9ª maior artista da música de todos os tempos.
Nascida em Memphis, criada em Detroit, Michigan, filha de um pastor com uma cantora gospel. Em 1960, Aretha viajou para Nova York para ter aulas de técnica vocal e de dança.
