New York, New York - Ryan Adams
Capo 2nd Fret
I saw this tab and played it but something didn't quite sound right.
Although I've only been playing a year I eventually realized that the
(C) Chord in some instances should have a (G) base. I've changed the
offending Chords and marked them as C/G which should be played as
follows; 3X2013. To play this accurately at pace I found you must hold
down the G chord using your pinky so that the change between the G
and C/G chords are a lot easier. The intro and the bridge between the
chorus and the verses were also slightly out too as the C/G chord
should be utilized here as follows;
[Intro/Bridge] | G G C/G C/G | C/G C/G G G | G G C/G C/G | C/G C/G G G |
[Verse 1]
(G) Well I shuffled through the city (C/G) on the Fourth of July
Had a firecracker waiting to blow (G)
(G) Breaking like a robber (C) who was making his way
To the cities of Mexico (G)
(G) Lived in an apartment out (C/G) on Avenue A
Had a tar on the corner of Tenth (G)
(G) Had myself a lover who was (C) finer than gold
But I been broke I?ve been busted up since (G)
[Chorus 1]
(D) Love don?t play (G) any (D) games with me (G)
Anymore(C) like she did before
(D) World won?t (G) wait so I (D) better shake
That (C) thing right out there through the door
Hell, I still (D) love you New York
[Bridge] | G G C/G C/G | C/G C/G G G | G G C/G C/G | C/G C/G G G |
[Verse 2]
(G) Found myself a picture that would (C/G) fit in the folds
Of my wallet and it stayed pretty good (G)
(G) Still amazed I didn?t lose it out on (C) Lutheran Place
When I was drunk and I was thinking of you (G)
(G) Every day the children they were (C/G) singing the tunes
Out on the streets and you could hear from the side (G)
(G) Used to take the subway out of (C) Houston and Third
I would wait for you and not try to hide (G)
[Chorus 2]
(D) Love won?t (G) play any (D) games with you (G)
Anymore (C) if you don?t want her to
(D) World won?t (G) wait I (D) watched you shake (G)
But (C) honey I don?t blame you
Hell, I still (D) love you New York
[Bridge] | G G C/G C/G | C/G C/G G G | G G C/G C/G | C/G C/G G G |
[Verse 3]
(G) I remember Christmas (C/G) in the blistering cold
In a church on the Upper West Side (G)
(G) Babe, you stood there singing I was (C) holding you arm
You were holding my trust like a child (G)
(G) Found a lot of trouble out on (C/G) Avenue B
But I tried to keep the overhead low (G)
(G) Farewell to the city and the (C) love of my life
As we left before we had to go (G)
[Chorus 3]
(D) Love won?t (G) play any (D) games with you (G)
Anymore (C) if you don?t want her to
(D) Sweep and (G) shake this old (D) thing out the (G) door
I?ll (C) always be thinking of you
I?ll always (D) love you though New York
[Ending] | G G C/G C/G | C/G C/G G G | X4 to fade
(the last few G chords should be Gsus, played as 3X0013).
Thanks to the person who posted the original copy and I hope my modest
alterations help make this wonderful song sound even more enjoyable
to play.
