Nascido em 13 de março de 1939 no Brooklyn, New York, Estados Unidos.
Em 1956, montou sua primeira banda na escola chamada "The Tokens". Sedaka, já estudava piano desde os oito anos de idade e desde 1952, mantinha o hábito de compor canções.
Nunca atingindo grande sucesso, por volta de 1958, o produtor de discos, Morty Craft, escolheu uma canção de Sedaka,a imortal "Stupid Cupid", para que a rainha da época do rock n' roll, Connie Francis, gravasse. Sucesso mundial.
