Louis Armstrong (4 de Agosto, 1901 – 6 de Julho , 1971) é, sem dúvida, o músico de jazz mais conhecido do público em todo o mundo. Foi chamado de "a personificação do jazz". Seu retrato e sua voz são inconfundíveis, até para quem não é aficionado do jazz.
Nascido em Storyville, o distrito de Nova Orleans famoso por seu ambiente, digamos, diversificado, que incluía de bordéis até igrejas, passando por espeluncas diversas, Louis Daniel Armstrong passou a infância mergulhado em grande pobreza.
