This version of Wrong Star, from White Lung's third album Deep Fantasy, was performed by
Mish Way
and Katie Crutchfield (of Waxahatchee) on Noisey Acoustics. I just wrote down the chords
Katie played.
Watch the youtube clip, it's hauntingly beautiful! - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqUjbjHM720
Katie plays the F-chord with the A switched out to a B, making it more of a
Fadd11+-chord...? (Don't quote
me on that). To make things easier, I'll write a simple "F" and you can make up your own
mind whether
you want to put in the add11. The Fadd11 sounds a bit more dissonant by itself, but
works out _really_ well
while playing it (as you might've noticed in the youtube video).
[verse]
Am F
We belong in the tar
Am F
Throwing pennies, burning light into scars
Am F
If you die, I don't survive
Am F
The truth is just a word between you and I, so you tell me
[pre-chorus]
Am G F
What I know
Am G F
What I know
[transition]
F
[chorus]
Am G F
You were born under
Am G F
You were bred right
Am G F
You're the wrong star
Am G
(You were wrong)
[verse]
Your name in my arm
Burn it fast or he'll take your charm
I'll scream, I'll hurt for you
Break the glass, kill that girl, swallow two, you tell me
[pre-chorus]
What I know
What I know
[transition]
[chorus]
You were born under
You were bred right
You're the wrong star
You were wrong
[transition]
Am G
[bridge]
F Am
We lay all night
F Am
Frozen. but not quite
F G Am
Scratching the white
F Am
Out of us, out of us
[these lyrics is not on the acoustic version, but hey, sing this part too if you want]
We do
We do
And it's you
[transition]
Am G F (x3, and on the fourth time, keep playing F)
[chorus]
You were born under
You were bred right
You're the wrong star
You were wrong
