Puramente da velha-guarda da soul music, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings é uma banda de funk/soul, Sharon possui uma voz potente, de alcance profundo, que utiliza para buscar uma certa pureza perdida do soul, timbres que remetem aos clássicos dos selos Motown e Stax.
Produção de soul music como era feita nos anos 60 e 70, sem equipamentos digitais ou eletrônicos, tudo simplesmente com instrumentos analógicos.
No estúdio ainda gravam em fita, com os instrumentos gravados todos juntos, ao vivo.
