Na década passada, ao lado do irmão Tim Kinsella e do primo Nate Kinsella, Mike Kinsella (natural de Chicago, Illinois), tocou nas bandas Cap'n'Jazz, Joan of Arc, The One Up Downstairs, American Football, Owls, Maritime e Aloha. Mike também toca na banda The Shirts and Skins, com sua esposa.
