The Shame
G
G
A million times I've looked at the tides
G
Never thought I'd find myself crying
Em G
I find cold burning tears of anger and pity and shame
G
Lying before me is a tiny young life
G
Hated by years of hatred and crime
Em G
Killed by indifferent, fanatic religious divides
G
They crept out of hiding and ran for their lives
G
Too young for the fighting, too young to take sides
Em G
They're hope for the future washed up there in the brine
G
It's important to know that the waters they choked
G
They were international, they'd pinned all their hopes
Em G
On rumours of leaving, the promise of freedom we gave
Am D
But the you door left open you slammed in their face
Am D
Now full of self-loathing this common disgrace
Am D G
As a world we did nothing and silently let them die
Am D
So tell me my friends does the future look rosy?
G Em
Do you sleep well in bed, safe warm and cosy?
Am D G
Do you hope someone finds a solution overnight?
Am D
And tell me again how history repeats
G Em
And how we learned from all our mistakes
Am D G
And we'd like to help, but sadly your hands are tied
G G Em G
Am D
With racists and bigots running countries and business
Am D
No real religions just misguided misfits
Am D G
It's business as usual, towing the party line
Am D
How proud you must feel when you're cutting your deals
Am D
To the arms manufacturer's greasing the wheels
Am D G
Selling bullets and bombs to the men with the guns taking bribes
Am D
And tell me my friend does the future look rosy?
G Em
Do you sleep well in bed, safe warm and cosy?
Am D G
Do you hope someone finds a solution overnight?
Am D
So tell me again how history repeats
G Em
How we could learn from all our mistakes
Am D G
How you'd like to help but sadly you haven't the time
