The Blasters são uma típica banda de rock and roll. Mais particularmente, com uma grande influência do rockabilly e, naturalmente, rhythm and blues rock. Californianos, liderados pelos irmãos Phil e Dave Alvin (este, em profícua carreira solo após a banda se desfazer no final dos anos 80). Phil 'tirou' o nome da banda de um grupo que ele supunha chamar-se Blues Blasters (que apoiavam Joe Turner). Porém, nascidos dentro do movimento punk no final dos anos 70, herdaram alguma infuência daí também.
