Formada por Bob Mould (ex Hüsker Dü) na guitarra e vocais; David Barbe no baixo; e Malcolm Travis na bateria, o grupo Sugar surgiu com grande expectativa no começo do ano de 1992: depois de 6 anos em carreira solo, Bob Mould formava uma nova banda. E não decepcionou, pois o primeiro álbum, Copper Blue, tornou-se um sucesso nas paradas underground e agradou também a crítica, faturando o prêmio de Álbum do ano de 1992, segundo a revista NME.
