O músico norte-americano nascido em Silver Spring, Maryland, é pioneiro no gênero lo-fi, que nasceu a partir do rock alternativo. Começou gravando músicas em fitas K-7 em sua própria casa e não demorou a assinar com o renomado selo Drag City.
