An Atlanta-based folksinger best known for his Top Ten hit "Lullaby," Shawn Mullins was serving as a member of the U.S. Army Airborne Infantry Division when he released his first self-titled cassette (issued on his own label, SM) in 1989.
Following the release of 1991's Everchanging World, he left the military after eight years to pursue music on a full-time basis. After three years spent fruitlessly searching for a record deal, Mullins established a new label, SMG, and released the LPs Better Days and Big Blue Sky in the interim.

Tuning: EADGBe Capo 2
He plays different intros on each version of this song. I usually just play G - C - G-D - G or something like that. As long as it's in the key, it'll sound fine...
Fraction of a Man Capo 2
G Now my old friend Harry
C Never slowed down to marry
GD He's in sales, he's gone most of the year
G He smiles through all his lies
C With dollar signs in his eyes
GD Riff 1 (EmG) And he orders himself another beer
G Now Harry, he's a dreamer
C A scholar and a schemer
G But he'll be there for you
D When push comes to shove
G His mama called him Harold
CG And she was one of only two women
D Riff 2 (EmC) That Harry ever loved
C The other was a waitress
C In Cave Creek, Arizona
C That broke his heart
G And tangled up his mind
G My old friend Harry
D Lookin' kinda scary
D7 Riff 3 (EmCD) Wonders if he's runnin' out of time
G Now Biloxi's got a sadness
C Like a dark day in December
G That Harry recognizes
D In all forgotten southern towns
G Thumbin' through the phonebook
C For a name he can't remember
GD Lookin' desperate, like a junkie
EmD Waitin' for a fix to come around
C Sittin' playing Blackjack
C With a hooker and a tourist
CG And a one-eyed dealer winning every hand
G Harry sips Black Label
D Slumps down at the table
D7 Riff 3 (Em) Feelin' like a fraction of a man
(C) (D) EmCDG Feelin' like a fraction of a man
He doesn't play these on Honeydew, but he puts them in on his live album.
