The Verve (originalmente Verve) foi formada em Wigan, Inglaterra, no ano de 1989, tendo como integrantes Richard Ashcroft (vocalista/guitarrista), Nick McCabe (guitarrista), Simon Jones (baixista) e Peter Salisbury (baterista).
Apesar de a banda ter se formado em 1989, apenas em 1992 foi lançado seu primeiro trabalho, intitulado apenas de "Verve EP", disco que não chegara na época ao Brasil.
Pouco tempo depois, em 1993 é lançado "A Storm in Heaven", com destaque para os singles "Blue" e "Slide Away".
