Freda Charcelia Payne (nace 19 de septiembre de 1942 en Detroit, Michigan) es una actriz y cantante afro-americana conocida por su exitosa canción "Band of Gold". Freda es la hermana mayor de Scherrie Payne, la cantante de las "Supremes".
De niña, Freda Payne creció escuchando a muchas cantantes de Jazz como Ella Fitzgerald y Billie Holiday. De adolescente estudió en el "Institute of Musical Arts", pronto comenzó a cantar jingles comerciales en la radio y participó en shows de talento en radio y televisión.
