G7 and A7 can be played instead of G and A, which I'm pretty sure is how he
plays it. He also throws in a lot of Xsus chords intermitantly throughout
the song, along with a sort of Travis style finger picking. Enjoy!
Don Edwards - The Cowboy's Song
Intro: C G F F C G C
C
Pushin horns weren't easy
F C
like the movie says it was
C
I don't remember dance hall girls
G
Or hotel rooms with rugs
C
You worked hot and tired and nasty
F C
Rode your pony's head too low
G
And all them nights you couldn't sleep
F
Cause it was too damn cold
C G C
And we sing Strawberry Roan, Little Joe
C
Like the time we hit the river
F C
And the rain begun to fall
C
The water risin' so damn fast
G
We thought it'd drown us all
C
Now we lost a lot of steers that day
F C
And four or five good mounts
G
But when all the boys rode into camp
F
We knew that's what counts
C G C
And we sang, yippie ti yi yay, Amazing Grace
C
Or the night they broke behind us
F C
And they took us by surprise
C
I whistled out to Bonner
G
I saw the terror in his eyes
C
And he rode for all his horse would ride
F C
And I know he done his best
G
But he crossed over Jordan
F
Ridin' Dunny to his death
C G C
And we sang, Bringing in the Sheaves and The Rugged Cross
C F C C G C A D
D
When you see the cowboy
G D
He's not ragged by his choice
D
And he never meant to bow them legs
A
Or put that gravel in his voice
D
Just chasin' what he really loves
G D
What's burnin' in his soul
A G
Wishin' to hell that he'd been born a hundred years ago
D A D
Still singin' Strawberry Roan and Little Joe
A D
still singin' Strawberry Roan... and Little Joe
D G D D A D
