Beam lançou seu primeiro álbum como Iron & Wine em 2002, intitulado "The Creek Drank the Cradle", pela gravadora Sub Pop. Sua música é comparada a artistas como Simon and Garfunkel, Neil Young, Nick Drake, Elliott Smith e John Fahey.
