Biografia:
Codeine foi formada por membros Stephen Immerwahr (vocal, baixo), Chris Brokaw (bateria) e John Engle (guitarra). Foi pioneira no Slowcore e Sadcore subgêneros do rock indie, mas com uma atitude mais experimental do que as outras bandas do gênero, como a Low, Idaho e Red House Painters. Tom original da banda, marcada por andamentos lentos e vocais nasais de Immerwahr e toque de Engle Telecaster , não evoluiu muito durante a sua carreira.
Codeine lançou seu primeiro álbum Frigid Stars LP na gravadora alemã Glitterhouse em agosto de 1990.
