American Aquarium is an American alternative country band from Raleigh, NC.
Formed in 2006, the band derived its name from the Wilco song, “I Am Trying to Break Your Heart,” and is led by band founder and lead vocalist/ guitarist BJ Barham. A new lineup was announced in April 2017 with new faces joining the ranks: Crooks drummer Joey Bybee, Damn Quails bass player Ben Hussey and guitarist Shane Boeker – all from Texas – along with Nashville pedal-steel player Adam Kurtz

It’s [C] hard to stay in[G]side When the [C] bar calls your [F] name [C] Pretty soon the [G] hotel room Is gonna [Am] drive me in[F]sane
So [C] I’m gonna hit the [G] streets tonight [C] Make my way toward the [F] neon lights [C] Order drinks in a [G] downtown dive ‘Til [Am] I forget my [F] name
CHORUS And if I [Am] make it out alive I’ll [G] call, you know I [F] will If [Am] I can just sur[G]vive One more [F] night [G] in [C] Jacksonville
Well the [C] powder picks me [G] up And the [C] pills they pull me [F] down When the [C] evening ends they’re the [G] only friends That [Am] seem to stick [F] around
I think I’ll [C] spend the rest of my [G] days With [C] poison in my [F] veins And keep [Am] living the lie that rock ‘n’ [G] roll’s alive That [Am] things are gonna [F] change
CHORUS And if I [Am] make it out alive I’ll [G] call, you know I [F] will If [Am] I can just sur[G]vive One more [F] night [G] in [C] Jacksonville
I spent the [C] better part of my [G] early 20s [C] Medicated and [F] always running From the [C] man that my [G] mama [Am] Wanted me to [F] be
See the [C] nights grew longer and [G] harder to remember [C] Another show, another [F] bartender Another [Am] face, another [G] place That’ll [Am] fade away with [F] time
CHORUS And if I [Am] make it out alive I’ll [G] call, you know I [F] will If [Am] I can just sur[G]vive One more [F] night [G] in [C] Jacksonville
