O Grandaddy não escapa dos rótulos constantemente chamados de "lo-fi" ou "alternative country"pelo fato de virem da "California esquecida".A verdade é que a banda bebe de muitas fontes, juntando a caipirice do Whiskeytown com os experimentalismos do Flaming Lips, sem descartar a insanidade garageira de Pixies e Mudhoney em muitas faixas. Isso fica bem claro ao ouvir os discos da banda, onde o Grandaddy passeia por estilos variados sem nunca deixar de imprimir sua marca.
