Nascida em Inglaterra no dia 18 de Junho de 1961, em Basildon, Essex, Alison Moyet só iniciou a sua carreira na música nos anos 80 quando se juntou aos Yazoo. Contudo, em 1983, Moyet enveredou numa carreira a solo e lançou, passado um ano, "Alf", o seu álbum de estreia. O disco conquistou um sucesso considerável em terras britânicas e chegou mesmo à primeira posição da tabela de álbuns. Dois anos passados, em 1985, Alison juntou-se a uma banda de jazz liderada por John Altman e gravou "That Ole Devil Called Love"
