ABmEAGbm I wish I was, in Carrickfergus
BmEA Only for nights, in Ballygrant
BmEAGbm I would swim over the deepest ocean
BmEA The deepest ocean to be by your side
EAGbmE But the sea is wide and I can't swim over
AGbmDE And nor have I the wings to fly
BmEAGbm If I could find me a handy boatman
BmEA To ferry me over to my love and die
BmEAGbm My childhood days bring back sad reflections
BmEA Of happy time spend so long ago.
BmEAGbm My boyhood friends and my own relations
BmEA Have all passed on like the melting snow
EAGbmE I'll spend my days in endless roving
AGbmDE Soft is the grass and my bed is free
BmEAGbm Oh to be home now in Carrickfergus
BmEA On the long road down to the salty sea
BmEAGbm And in Kilkenny it is reported
BmEA On marble stone as black as ink
BmEAGbm With gold and silver I did support her
BmEA But I'll sing no more now till I get a drink
EAGbmE For I'm drunk today and I'm rarely sober
AGbmDE A handsome rover from town to town
BmEAGbm Oh but I am sick now and my days are numbered
BmEA so come on ye young men and lay me down
