A Tyrannosaurus Rex foi fundada por Marc Bolan em Agosto de 1967. A banda era formada, inicialmente por Bolan (vocais, guitarra) e Steve Peregrine Took (vocais e percussão), mais tarde, em 1969, substituido por Mickey Finn. A banda gravou quatro álbuns, entre 1968 e 1970, quando mudou seu nome para T. Rex.
