D
She laid her head on the bar
Watching tiny little stars
G D
Dance around in front of her eyes
And he cried on her shoulder
As he sat there and told her
Bm A G
Sad stories and pretty white lies
D
And if not for that one indiscretion
G
It would have been an uneventful day
Bm A
If not for that single obsession
G A
Things would never have gone that way
G A
But she had one last drink and she didn't think twice
D G
In fact she didn't think at all
G A D
My, my, How far can a little girl fall?
D
They walked out of the bar
She climbed into his car
G D
And they drove to somewhere deep in the night
D
Where she slipped off her ring
And the rest of her things
Bm A G
And he switched off the tiny dome light
A
She fell back in his arms without the slightest alarm
D G
Forgetting everything her mama once said
Bm A
And just for a moment in the back of her mind
G A
A tiny picture come and went in her head
G A
Oh she remembered a man who was waiting at home
D G
And a baby barely learning to crawl
G A D
My, my, How far can a little girl fall?
Bm A
At six fifteen the baby woke up at home
G D
And the crying shook her daddy awake
Bm A
At a quarter to seven he made the decision
G A B
He thought he'd never have to make
E
Then at eight forty-five that girl came back to life
A E
In the back seat of a fancy car
E
To a world of disgrace and a smile on the face
C#m B A
Of some stranger from a downtown bar
A B
At nine o'clock she put the key in the lock
E A
Just a little too late to explain
C#m B
But she took one minute more before she opened the door
A B
She went over her story again
A B
Well the child and the man were both long long gone
E A
And the note said "Goodbye" and that's all
A B E
My, my, How far can a little girl fall?
A B E
Oh-O-O-Oh My, my, How far can a little girl fall?
