Formado em São Francisco, pelo líder e vocalista Mark Kozelek, o Red House Painters é uma das principais referências do slowcore mundial. Com um ar folk e acompanhados das magníficas composições tristes e emocionantes de Kozelek, Gorden Mack (guitarra), Anthony Koutsos (bateria) e Jerry Vessel (baixo) completavam o quarteto em sua formação inicial. Entre 1989 e 2001, lançaram seis álbuns, uma compilação, um EP, cinco singles, um CD beneficente ao Harvey Milk Institute e um tributo a John Denver.
