A banda Orson surgiu no final de 1999 e o seu nome é uma homenagem ao lendário Orson Welles. Confunde-se muito a nacionalidade da banda, cuja surgiu na cidade de Hollywood, no estado da Califórnia (EUA). Estourou nas paradas de sucesso do país onde foi lançado seu primeiro disco, na Inglaterra.
A BBC Radio 1 da Inglaterra definiu Orson como “a ligação que faltava entre os Rolling Stones e o Scissor Sisters.”
