Compõe músicas para estilos variados, como Pop, R&B, dance, entre outros, e já trabalhou com vários artistas como Britney Spears, Celine Dion, Demi Lovato e Kelly Clarkson.

Kara nasceu em Ossining, Nova York, e é descente italiana. Filha de Carol Asselta e Joseph J. DioGuardi. Sua mãe morreu em 1997, após lutar durante 7 anos contra um câncer nos ovários.
