John Stewart nació en 1939 en San Diego, California. Cantante y compositor de sus propios temas, se le conoce especialmente por sus contribuciones a la música folk americana de los años 60 como miembro del famoso Kingston Trio (1961–1967). Ya en solitario publicó albumes como «California Bloodlines», el famoso «Cannons in the Rain», «Wingless Angels» y «Bombs Away Dream Babies», que incluía el éxito "Gold" (1979).
