Um cantor/compositor conhecido por seu rico e expressivo barítono, o nativo de Nova Jérsei John Gorka foi uma das principais luzes do novo movimento do folk. John começou sua carreira enquanto frequentava a faculdade em Pensilvânia no começo dos anos 80, aparecendo em noites de open-mike em um café local antes de eventualmente formar seu próprio grupo, The Razzy Dazzy Spasm Band.
