Além de cantor, foi um exímio compositor e músico norte-americano, e se tornou ícone da música country além de ser considerado um dos músicos mais influentes do século 20. Foi pioneiro do estilo ‘Honky Tonk’ (um estilo específico de música country) e devido ao pioneirismo e talento, emplacou diversos sucessos.
