Candle in the Wind 1997 - Elton John and B. Taupin Tribute to Princess Diana Please note: This version does not necessarily reflect the key Elton John uses in his interpretation of his song. (A capo should be used to match the key which bests enables you and yours to sing Candle in the Wind)
[Verse 1] GC Goodbye England's rose, may you ever grow in our hearts CGC You were the grace that placed itself where lives were torn apart GC You called out to our country, and you whispered to those in pain. GC Now you belong to heaven, and the stars spell out your name.
[Chorus] DD7 And it seems to me you lived your life GC Like a candle in the wind GD Never fading with the sunset when the rain set in CEm And your footsteps will always fall here along England's greenest hills GDC Your candles burned out long before your legend ever will.
[Verse 2] GC Loveliness we've lost, these empty days without your smile GC This torch we'll always carry for our nation's golden child GC And even though we try, the truth brings us to tears GC All our words cannot express the joy you brought us through the years.
[Chorus] DD7 And it seems to me you lived your life GC Like a candle in the wind GD Never fading with the sunset when the rain set in CEm And your footsteps will always fall here along England's greenest hills GDCG Your candles burned out long before your legend ever will.
[Verse 3] GC Goodbye England's rose, may you ever grow in our hearts GC You were the grace that placed itself where lives were torn apart GC Goodbye England's rose, from a country lost without your soul GC Who'll miss the wings of your compassion more than you'll ever know.
[Chorus] DD7 And it seems to me you lived your life GC Like a candle in the wind GD Never fading with the sunset when the rain set in CEm And your footsteps will always fall here along England's greenest hills GDCG Your candles burned out long before your legend ever will.
Repeat last part of Chorus... CEm And your footsteps will always fall here among England's greenest hills GDCG Your candles burned out long before your legend ever will.
