Verse: A6add9GD/F# You can't live without hope that things will change for the better Em7/BGBmadd11 You can't live without the dream of someone reading your letter A6add9GD/F# We've had dust storms before and spit out the dirt Em7/BGBmadd11 We've had droughts before, but none quite like this A6add9GD/F# We've had winds that cut up your face all to pieces Em7/BGBmadd11 Black blizzards that stripped all the paint off your car A6add9GD/F# Fires like twisters, no sisters of mercy Em7/BGBmadd11 They come with no warning, only that sound EmGBmadd11F#9A9 God is roaring drunk and out on the town
Chorus: DGD Next year, everything will come good Em7/BGBmadd11 The rains they will fall and will dance on the hood DGD We'll fill up our bellies with plentiful food Em7/BG We'll eat, drink, and be merry DEm7/B Yeah, next year people wait and see GBmadd11F#9A9Bmadd11 We're next year people, you and me
Verse: A6add9GD/F# Henry got hit by lightening twice in head Em7/BGBmadd11 He stood and walked away, we thought he was dead A6add9GD/F# Now he talks funny, says he's wired to the sky Em7/BGBmadd11 He walks for miles and miles, and no one knows why A6add9GD/F# The bank men, they came and wrote things down on paper Em7/BGBmadd11 We all went outside and just stood around A6add9GD/F# We were glad when they left, they brought nothing but heartache EmGBmadd11F#9A9 And the seed we had planted, it stayed in the ground
Chorus: DGD Next year, everything will come good Em7/BGBmadd11 The rains they will fall and will dance on the hood DGD We'll fill up our bellies with plentiful food Em7/BG We'll eat, drink, and be merry DEm7/B Yeah, next year people wait and see GBmadd11F#9A9Bmadd11 We're next year people, you and me
Verse: A6add9GD/F# Dry endless plains, and we've suffered the worst Em7/BGBmadd11 Are we being punished or are we just cursed? A6add9GD/F# It's almost ten years, and no drop of rain Em7/BGBmadd11 Only mocking blue skies bringing more of the same A6add9GD/F# Our mother was crying when they sent us to stay Em7/BGBmadd11 With strangers in a town and we both ran away A6add9GD/F# Back to the dust and see Henry again Em7/BG We're creatures of habit, don't you know EmGBmadd11F#9A9 One day we'll reap what we sow.
Chorus: DGD Next year, everything will come good Em7/BGBmadd11 The rains they will fall and will dance on the hood DGD We'll fill up our bellies with plentiful food Em7/BG We'll eat, drink, and be merry DEm7/B Yeah, next year people wait and see GBmadd11 We're next year people, you and me DEm7/B Yeah, next year people wait and see GBmadd11F#9A9Bmadd11 We're next year people, you and me
