Dahlia was formed by Kaori (vocals, lyrics, and artwork) and Kanichi Saito (bass, song writing, and programming). In 1998 they released their first album Table Talk, and the following year their second album June Fool. In these albums, they performed their own music style called "nouvelle pop music", which was influenced by French pop, jazz, bossa nova and film. Following the release of these albums, dahlia moved to Happiness Records. They released quatrieme in 2001 and le mode d'emploi in 2003.
