David Gates, nacido el 11/12/1940 en Tulsa, Oklahoma, EE. UU, en 1968 se integró al grupo Bread, su música es de corte romántico, melódico, creador de temas como "Guitar Man", ·goodbye girl (la chica del adios), someday; suite, clouds, rain. Después de un tiempo se retiró del grupo y siguió como solista, para en dos encuentros con Bread grabar: essentials-if y just like yesterday. sus temas quedarán en la inmortalidad de los preciados lentos. sin dudas uno de los mejores exponentes en su estilo.
