[Verse 1] EmCGG/F#GD I left my heart to the sappers round, Khe Sahn. EmCD And my soul was sold with my cigarettes, to the black market man. EmCGC I've had the Vietnam cold turkey, from the ocean to the silver city AmFD And it's only other vets could understand.
[Verse 2] EmCGG/F#GD 'Bout the long forgotten dockside guarantees, EmCD How there were no V-day heroes in nineteen seventy-three; EmCGC How we sailed into Sydney Harbour, saw an old friend but I couldn't kiss her. AmDGCGD She was lined, and I was home to the lucky land
[Verse 3] EmCGG/F#GD She was like so many more from that time on EmCD Their lives were all so empty, till they'd found their chosen one, EmCGC And their legs were often open, but their minds were always closed, AmFD And their hearts were held in fast suburban chains
[Verse 4] EmCGG/F#GD And the legal pads were yellow, hours long paypackets lean, EmCD And the telex writers clattered where the gunships once had been; EmCGC But the carparks made me jumpy, and I never stopped the dreams, AmDGCGD Or the growing need for speed and novacaine
[Verse 5] EmCGG/F#GD So I worked across the country from end to end EmCD Tried to find a place to settle down, where my mixed up life could mend, EmCGC Held a job on an oil-rig, flying choppers when I could, AmFD But the nightlife nearly drove me round the bend.
[Verse 6] EmCGG/F#GD And I've travelled round the world from year to year, EmCD And each one found me aimless, one more year the worse for wear, EmCGC And I've been back to South East Asia, and the answer sure ain't there, AmDGCGD But I'm drifting north, to check things out again.
[Verse 7] EmCGG/F#GD Well the last plane of Sydney's almost gone. EmCD And only seven flying hours, and I'll be landing in Hong Kong. EmCGC And there ain't nothin' like the kisses from a jaded Chinese princess, AmFD I'm gonna hit some Hong Kong mattress all night long
[Verse 8] EmCGG/F#GD Well the last plane out of Sydney's almost gone. EmCD You know the last plane out of Sydney's almost gone. EmCGC And it's really got me worried, I'm going nowhere and I'm in a hurry. AmDGCG You know the last plane out of Sydney's almost gone.
[Verse 9] EmCGG/F#GD Well the last plane out of Sydney's almost gone. EmCD You know the last plane out of Sydney's almost gone. EmCGC And it's really got me worried, I'm going nowhere and I'm in a hurry. AmDGCGCG You know the last plane out of Sydney's almost gone.
