William Smith Monroe (Jerusalem Ridge, Kentucky 1911-Springfield, Tennessee 1996). Cantante country inventor del estilo "bluegrass". Desde niño domina la mandolina. En 1938 graba su canción más famosa "The Mule Skinner Blues". Con su banda The Blue Grass Boys crea un estilo musical tan innovador que nadie sabe cómo llamarlo. Su canción "Blue Moon of Kentucky" es el primer single de Elvis Presley. Con la aparición de la música folk, su fama aumenta, tocando en todas las universidades americanas.
