Bat for Lashes proviene de la imaginación y talento de Natasha Khan (nacida el 25 de octubre de 1979), quien se graduó en Música y Artes Visuales. Su niñez la pasó viajando por el mundo, debido a que su padre (pakistaní) es un reputado jugador de squash. Después del divorcio de sus padres, cuando ella tenía 11 años, Natasha no volvió a tener contacto alguno con su familia paterna.
