Amorphis. A partir de la "amorfa" (sin determinar la forma).
Previo a Amorphis Esa Holopainen y Jan Rechberger formaban parte de Abhorrence que es conocida como la maqueta de Amorphis.
Para el otoño de 1990 los dos miembros fundadores de la banda (guitarra) Esa Holopainen y el (bateria) Jan Rechberger unen fuerzas con el (guitarra / vocal) Tomi Koivusaari y el (bajo) Olli-Pekka "Oppu" Laine, buscando dejar su huella en las nuevas escenas del Death Metal finlandés.
