Alexander David Turner nace en Sheffield, Inglaterra el 6 de enero de 1986, es hijo de dos profesores, en sus primeros años recibe como regalo su primer guitarra, gracias a Oasis a Alex le despierta el deseo de ser cantante. Ha sido la influencia de su madre y padre (a través de sus enseñanzas de Alemán y Música respectivamente) lo que lo ha ayudado a pulir su interés en el lenguaje y su atención al detalle musical. Junto a Andy Nicholson y Matt Helders, Turner asistió a la Stocksbridge High School, y formó Arctic Monkeys en el 2002.
