Sam Cooke, cantante de soul y gospel nacido en Mississippi el 22 de enero de 1931. Está considerado uno de los pioneros de la música soul, siendo una de las grandes influencias del pop, el rhythm and blues y el neo soul.
Para algunos está considerado como «Rey del Soul» (título que comparte con Otis Redding), y con el paso del tiempo el hecho de que tuviera casi la treintena de hits entre 1957 y 1965 ha hecho a muchos pensar que realmente es uno de los padres del soul.
