Common people
C She came from Greece she had a thirst for knowledge
She studies sculpture at St. Martins College G That¦s where I caught her eye C She told me that her dad was loaded
I said "In that case I¦ll have a rum and coca-cola" G She said "fine" and in a thirty seconds time she said
F "I want to live like common people C I want to do whatever common people do
I want to sleep with common people G I want to sleep with common people like you" C Well what else could I do?, I said "I¦ll see what I can do"
C I took her to a supermarket G I don¦t know why but I had to start it somewhere - so it started there C I said "Pretend you¦ve got no money"
She just laughed and said "Oh, you¦re so funny" G I said "Yeah, well I can¦t see someone else smiling in here
F Are you sure you want to live like common people C You want to see whatever common people see
You want to sleep with common people G You want to sleep with common people like me C But she didn¦t understand, she just smiled and held my hand
C Rent a flat above your shop, cut you hair and get a job G Smoke some fags and play some pool, prentend you never went to school C But still you¦ll never get it right, ¦cos when you¦re laid in bed at night G watching roaches climb the wall, if you called your dad he could stop it all
F You¦ll never live like common people C You¦ll never do whatever common people do
You¦ll never fail like common people G You¦ll never watch your life slide out of view C And dance and drink and screw because there¦s nothing else to do
CG CG
F Sing along with the common people, C Sing along and it might just get you thru¦
Laugh along with the common people G Laugh along even though they are laughing at you
And the stupid things that you do C Because you think that poor is cool
C Like a dog lying in a corner they will bite you and never warn you G look out, they¦ll tear you insides out C ¦Cos everybody hates a tourist especially one who thinks that it¦s all G Such a laugh
and the chip stains and grease will come out in the bath
F you will never understand how it feels to live your life C With no meaning or control and with nowhere left to go G You are amazed that they exist and they burn so bright C Whilst you can only wonder why
C Rent a flat above your shop, cut you hair and get a job G Smoke some fags and play some pool, prentend you never went to school C But still you¦ll never get it right, ¦cos when you¦re laid in bed at night G watching roaches climb the wall, if you called your dad he could stop it all
F You¦ll never live like common people C You¦ll never do whatever common people do
You¦ll never fail like common people G You¦ll never watch your life slide out of view C And dance and drink and screw because there¦s nothing else to do
I want to live with common people like you
I want to live with common people like you

F Well we were born within an hour of each other
Our mothers said we could be sister and brother Bb Your name is Deborah. Deborah - it never suited you
F Oh and they said that when we grew up
We4d get married and never split up Bb We never did it, although I often I thought of it
Cm [Csus2] Oh Deborah, do you recall? CmCm Your house was very small with wood-chips on the wall CmF When I came around to call you didn4t notice me at all
Bb And I said "Let4s all meet up in the year 2000 DmGm Won4t it be strange when we4re all fully grown? CmFsus4F Be there two o4clock by the fountain down the ro-----ad"
Bb I never knew that you4d get married DmGm I would be living down here on my own CmF On that damp and loney Thursday years ago
F You were the first girl in school to get breasts
Martyn said that you were the best Bb The boys all loved you but I was a mess
I had to watch them try to get you undressed
F We were friends that was as far as it went
I used to walk you home sometimes but it meant Bb Oh, it meant nothing to you - cos you were oh so popular Cm Oh Deborah, do you recall?
Your house was very small with wood-chips on the wall F When I came around to call you didn4t notice me at all
Bb And I said "Let4s all meet up in the year 2000 DmGm Won4t it be strange when we4re all fully grown? CmF Be there two o4clock by the fountain down the road"
Bb I never knew that you4d get married DmGm I would be living down here on my own CmF On that damp and loney Thursday years ago

"This is a song about those times when your life seems to be following a set path. It's alright ... but then suddenly something happens and shakes it all up - and it's called F.E.E.L.I.N.G.C.A. double L.E.D. L.O.V. ... G." - Jarvis Cocker
A5 The room is cold, and it's been like this for several months, and if I close my eyes I can visualise everything in it. Right down, right down to the broken handle of the third drawer down of the dressing table. And the world outside this room has assumed a familiar shape, the same events shuffled in a slightly different order each day, just like a modern shopping centre.
And it's so cold....., Yeah it's so cold...
DmCDmC What ...
EmDmEmDm is ...
FEmFEm this ... EmDmEmDm feeling called love?
DmCDmC Why me?
EmDmEmDm Why you?
FEmFEm Why here?
EmDmEmDm And why now?
DmCDmC It doesn't make no sense. No. EmDmEmDm It's not convenient. No. FEmFEm It doensn't fit my plans. EmDmEmDm No, it's something I don't understand oh.
DmCDmC F.E.E.L.I.N.G. {And as I stand and cross the room}
EmDmEmDm C.A. double L.E.D. {I feel as if my whole life has been leading to this one moment}
FEmFEm L. O. V. E. {And as I touch your shoulder, tonight}
EmDmEmDm What is this thing that is happening to me? {this room has become the centre of the entire universe}
A5 So what do I do? I've got this slightly sick feeling in my stomach like I'm standing on the top of a very high building. Oh yeah, all the stuff they tell you about in the movies, but this isn't chocolate boxes and roses - it's dirtier than that, like some small animal that only comes out at night. And I see flashes of the shape
of your breasts and the curve of you belly and they make me have to sit down and catch my breath.
And it's so cold......., Yeah it's so cold...
(Chords as before...)
What ... is ... this ... feeling called love? Why me? Why you? Why here? And why now?
It doesn't make no sense. No. It's not convenient. No. It doensn't fit my plans, But I've got that taste in my mouth again
F.E.E.L.I.N.G. {And the world begins to spin and spin outside the window}
C.A. double L.E.D. {faster and faster and faster}
L. O. V. E. {And this room has become the focus around which everything else revolves}
What is this thing that is happening to me?
F.E.E.L.I.N.G. C.A. double L.E.D. L.O.V.E. {shrieking Jarvis ad lib stuff...}

"Something Changed" [Verse 1]
GBmC I wrote this song two hours before we met
GBmC I didn't know your name or what you looked like yet Oh
CDBmE I could have stayed at home and gone to bed
CDBmE I could have gone to see a film instead
BmEAmD You might have changed your mind and seen your friends
BmEAmDAm7D Life could have been very different but then something changed
[DDsus4DGGsus4G]
[Verse 2] (same chords as verse 1) Do you believe that there's someone up above? And does he have a timetable directing acts of love? Why did I write this song on that one day? Why did you touch my hand and softly say "Stop questions that don't matter anyway Just give us a kiss to celebrate here today something changed"
[DDsus4DGGsus4G] [GBmC] x2 CDBmE When we woke up that morning we had no way of knowing
CDBmE that in a matter of hours we change the way we were going
BmEBmEAmD where would I be now? Where would I be now if we never met? BmEAmD Would I be singing this song to someone else instead?
Am7DG I don't know, but like you just said
G something changed.

Sorted For E's And Whizz by Pulp
[Verse1] C Oh is this the way they say the futures meant to feel?
G Oh just twenty thousand people standing in a field
C And I just don't understand quite what this feeling is
G That's okay cos we're all sorted out for E's and Whizz
C And tell me when the spaceship lands G Cos all this has just got to mean something
[CHORUS] Dm In the middle of the night
FGBb It feels alright but then tomorrow morning
AmBbGG Ohh ohh when you come down
Oh yeah the pirate radio told us what was going down Got the tickets from some messed up bloke in Camden Town And no one seems to know exactly where it is But that's okay, cos we're all sorted out for E's and Whizz At four o' clock the normal world seems very very very far away Hey hey
[CHORUS] CG Just keep on moving
C Everybody asks your name they say we're all the same G And now it's, Nice One, Geezer - that's as far as the conversation went
C I lost my friends I dance alone, it's 6 o' clock, I wanna go home
[This bit's spoken, and the timing's a bit weird, so just do the chords as before!] G But it's no way not today, makes you wonder what it meant
C... And this hollow feeling grows and grows and grows and grows And you wanna call your mother and say, "Mother, I can never come home again because I seem to have left an important part of my brain somewhere in a field in Hampshire. Alright
[CHORUS]
AmBb Oohh Oohh when you come down AmBb Ooh what if you never come down?
