Porcupine Tree emergió del pequeño pueblo de Hemel Hempstead en Hertfordshire, Inglaterra, para mostrar al mundo su eficiente fórmula de Rock Progresivo Moderno. La banda esta formada por:

Steven Wilson - Vocales, Guitarra, Piano/Teclados y Mellotron.
Richard Barbieri - Teclados y Sintetizadores
Colin Edwin - Bajo
Gavin Harrison - Batería y Percusión
John Wesley - Guitarra y segunda voz (conciertos únicamente)

Todo empezó como un proyecto personal del joven guitarrista y cantante Steven Wilson
