Otis Redding fue un cantante de soul nacido en Georgia en 1941, y muerto en un accidente aéreo en Madison, Wisconsin, el 10 de diciembre de 1967. Fue apodado como "King of soul", y conoció su mayor éxito de forma póstuma con el tema "Sittin' on the dock of the bay". Fue también conocido por formar un dúo junto a Carla Thomas.
Su estilo no era revolucionario en su concepto, pero sí lo era la forma de ejecutarlo. Su voz podía pasar de ser aterciopelada a ser una voz rasgada, rota y rompedora.
