"Mississippi" John Smith Hurt (Teoc, Mississippi, 8 de marzo de 1892 - Grenada, Mississippi, 2 de noviembre de 1966) cantante y guitarrista de blues y folk.
John Smith Hurt creció en la localidad de Avalon Mississippi y aprendio a tocar la guitarra con 9 años. Pasó parte de su infancia escuchando los viejos temas del blues mientras trabajaaba como peón de granja en la década de los 20. En 1923, debutó de la mano de Willie Narmour, sustituyendo a su habitual compañero Shell Smith.
