Charlie Daniels é um cantor, guitarrista e violinista, que começou a escrever e tocar em 1950, quando ainda era um adolescente. Em 1964, Daniels co-escreveu “It Hurts Me” (uma canção que Elvis Presley gravou) com Joy Byers. Ele trabalhou como músico em Nashville, para o produtor Bob Johnston na CBS Records, tocou baixo em três álbuns de Bob Dylan em 1969 e 1970, e em gravações de Leonard Cohen. Ele produziu o álbum da banda Youngbloods, “Elephant Mountain” em 1969 e tocou violino em “Darkness Darkness”.
