GC When I became of age, my mama called me to her side. AD She said, "Son, you're growing up now, pretty soon you'll take a bride." G And then she said:
G7C7 Just because you've become a young man now G7C7 There's still some things that you don't understand, now. G7C7 Before you ask some girl for her hand, now, G7C7 Keep your freedom for as long as you can, now. A7D7G My mama told me, You'd better shop around. C7G7D7 Oh yeah, You better shop around.
There's some things that I want you to know, now. Just as sure as the wind's gotta blow, now, The women come and the women gonna go, now. Before you tell 'em that you love 'em so, now, My mama told me, You'd better shop around. Oh yeah, You'd better shop around.
* C7 Try to get yourself a bargain, son. G7 Don't be sold on the very first one. C7 Pretty girls come a dime a dozen, A7D7 Try to find one who's gonna give you true lovin'.
Before you take a girl and say "I do" now, Make sure she's in love with you, now. My mama told me, You'd better shop around. Oh yeah, you'd better shop around.
(sax solo)
(repeat bridge)
Before you take a girl and say "I do" now, Make sure she's in love with you, now. Make sure that her love is true, now. I'd hate to see you feeling sad and blue, now. My mama told me, You'd better shop around. Oh yeah, don't let the first one get you. 'Cause I don't want to see her with you. Before you let her hold you tight, Make sure she's all right. Before you let her take your hand, my son Understand, my son, be a man, my son, I know you can, my son...
