This is is a poem set to music that my
parents learned at a church retreat 20
years ago as a pre-meal blessing. It
also is known as an alternative tune for
the doxology, but we don’t know the name
of the tune or who made the arrangement.
C G F C
The silver rain, the shining sun,
F C G C
the fields where scarlet poppies run,
C G F C
and all the ripples of the wheat
F C G C
are in the bread that I do eat.
C G F C
So when I sit for every meal,
F C G C
With grateful heart, I always feel
C G F C
that I am eating rain and sun,
F C G C
and fields where scarlet poppies run.
C G F C
Praise God from whom all blessings flow
F C G C
Praise him all creatures here below
C G F C
Praise him above ye heavenly hosts
F C G C
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost
