Town Blacksmith
D E
My home town had a blacksmith named Henry Bosler
A D
He was the one on whom all the farmers depend
E
Mr Bosler would make their plow shares sharper
A D
So they could go back and plow their fields again
G D
He had a little shed on the far side of town
E A
Where they would come and form a long line
D E
If the didnt get there real early
A D
They would lose a day of plowing time
D E
Some of the big farmers got real edgy
A D
And wanted to move up and get out of line
E
But Henry would stare at them with his heavy hammer
A D
They would grumble, but get back in line
G D
Henry Bosler was the village blacksmith
E A
And the only one for miles a- round
D E
At times, he could be real inde- pendent
A D D7
Make him self scarce, not to be found
G D
Everyone finally knew he was needed
E A
And they made a point to thank him every day
D E
Then Henry came down with a sickness
A D
And they used a black wagon to haul him away
D E
Now the town is very sorry
A D
That they had treated him that way
E
They took up a big collection
A D
And sent it to his sister far, far away
D E
I know the town did not prosper
A D
Without Mr. Bosler there every day
E
Some say it was his way of gettin even
A D
And that he and his sister are spending that collection today.
