Moriarty nació a partir del encuentro de Charlene Dupuy (vocalista), Médéric de Vanssay (batería), David Woods. (Saxofón), Thomas Puéchavy (armónica), Arthur B. Gillette (guitarra, piano, percusión), Stephan Zimmerli (bajo, guitarra) y Charles Carmignac (dobro, xilófono) a finales de los 90 años en Francia. Posteriormente, Charlene, Médéric y David abandonaron el grupo y Rosemary Standley toma el lugar de la cantante. El grupo lucha por encontrar baterías teniendo que producir con estilo acústico
