The Maccabees se formaron en 2003 cuando su cantante Orlando Weeks comenzó a ensayar en su habitación con el baterista Robert Thomas, el bajista Rupert Jarvis y los guitarristas -y hermanos- Hugo y Felix White. Por aquel entonces, se hicieron adictos a los documentales de la BBC en los que se pasaban directos de XTC, Dr. Feelgood y Talking Heads y, claro, se enamoraron del pop. Su melodioso, espástico y británico sonido recuerda al mejor pop crudo de maestros como The Kinks o Ian Dury
